Vaasa, with its historically important buildings, statues and monuments has more than enough to offer those with an interest in the history of this fascinating region.
The culture of Vaasa is found in traditions, valuable art- and museum collections, and at two different theatres offering top quality theatre productions. The opera, the city orchestra, chamber music groups and several other orchestras and choirs also preserve the cultural inheritance of Vaasa. Among the best known regular music events are: Vaasa Choir festival, Korsholm music festival and Rock Perry. Besides the international events, there are also hundreds of other musical events in Vaasa, ranging from symphony and church concerts to rock and jazz.
Cultural thirst can easily be quenched in Vaasa by visiting the Tikanoja Art Museum, the collections of the Ostrobothnian museum, the collections of the Hedman committee and the various exhibitions in the City Art Gallery. The Old Vaasa museum, Brage open-air museum and Sundom village - with its old homestead museum - attract people who are interested in south Ostrobothnian traditions.
The High Coast and the Kvarken Archipelago. The Kvarken Archipelago and the High Coast in Sweden forms together a transboundary World Natural Heritage Site. The distance between the areas is 150 kilometres. The steep High Coast and the flat Kvarken Archipelago "the Low Coast" are topographical opposites. Together they serve as a unique example of ongoing geological and biological processes and ecosystem development in time and space.
